« J’avais 8 ans, ma grand-mère m’avait offert ce livre de Max Ernst dans lequel je plongeais mes nuits. La relation entre le texte et l’image me fascinait, ne sachant celui qui était le premier. Ernst commençait-il par un texte pour continuer vers une image ou cette dernière évoquait-elle un titre ? Et quelle était la nature du texte, si celui-ci était en premier ? Était-il déjà, d’une façon ou d’une autre, une image ? Ou bien l’image, si elle était première, contenait-elle déjà sa textualité ? La frontière entre le discours et la figure se brouillait devant mes yeux d’enfant.
Cette dette d’enfance, je ne m’en suis jamais acquitté. J’ai repris les titres pour générer, grâce à une intelligence artificielle, des images. Celles-ci sont d’une certaine façon un collage, mais d’un nouveau genre : collage traversant l’épiderme de nos réseaux et de leur hypermnésie, collant par induction, synthèse et statistiques. »

Did Ernst begin with a text and continue with an image, or did the image evoke a title? And what was the nature of the text, if it came first? Was it already, in one way or another, an image? Or did the image, if it came first, already contain its textuality? The boundary between discourse and figure blurred before my childish eyes. This childhood debt has never been paid. I took the titles and used artificial intelligence to generate images. In a way, these are collages, but of a new kind: collages that cut through the epidermis of our networks and their hypermnesia, collages by induction, synthesis and statistics. »
